Cha Francis Vu “vinh quy lề làng”

“Anh em là muối cho đời.
Anh em là ánh sáng cho trần gian” Mathêu 5:13, 14

Đây là lời phúc âm giữ âm hưởng cho cho đức chân tu của cha, hôm nay lời phúc âm này đã mặc khải cho tân linh mục Francis Trần Anh Vũ. Ngày 10, tháng chín năm 2005 Cha Vũ đã “xin vâng” và tiến vào nhà Chúa để trở thành một Thượng tế đời đời như phẩm chật Men-ki-sê-dê. Trong những buổi tĩnh tâm, những buổi trại Xa Mạc của Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể, TNTT, Ánh sáng và Muối cho đời là một trong những đề tài thật linh động, gợi nhiều sự suy tư và dấn thân trong cuộc sống tâm linh cho nhiều tham dự viên. Hạt giống đó đã nở mầm ngày hôm nay, khi Đức Cha Soto gọi tên Cha Francis Vũ trong cung cách của lễ Tấn Phong Linh Mục, Cha Vũ đã đáp trả “Con đây! Francis Trần Vũ”, sau đó Cha nằm phủ phục xin vâng trước bàn thờ thánh lễ.

Cha Francis Vũ đã tham dự TNTT Anaheim Đức Mẹ Mông Triệu, TNTT/ĐMMT, vào năm 1995, một vài năm sau khi đoàn tụ vưọt biên cùng với mẹ tới Mỹ lúc 10 tuổi. Trong gia đình của ông bà cố Giuse Trần văn Lai Cha và Maria Nguyễn Thi Lượt, cha Francis Vũ là người con út sau hai người chị. Cha Vũ đã đi từ ngành Nghĩa, qua Dự Trưởng, Huynh Trưởng cấp I của LDNS-V, và Ngành Trưởng ngành Thiếu, đảm trách chương trình Xa Mạc miền Tây Nam cũng như Việt Ngữ tại cộng đoàn. Năm 1995 Cha Vũ đã tìm hiểu ơn gọi từ sự năng động của Cha Joseph Nguyễn văn Sơn, Cha Vũ qua Texas nhập Dòng Thánh Tâm, SCJ, và khấn dòng vào tháng 8 năm 2004. Thánh năm 2005 cha Vũ ra trường với Master of Divinity tại Chicago Theological Union.

Trong thời gian 10 năm này cha Francis Vũ đã rất sốt sắng hoạt động trong Đoàn TNTT Sao Biển, Chicago, và làm Trợ Uý cho đoàn và TNTT Miền Trung. Hiện thời Linh Mục Francis Vũ là Phụ Tá Tuyên Uý Ngành Thiếu của TNTT/VN Tòan Quốc. Cha Vũ đã luôn ghé lại các hoạt động trại Xa Mạc tại nam Cali trong các buổi tĩnh huấn cho TNTT qua mỗi kỳ thăm nhà.

Sau khi nhận chức Linh Mục, Cha Francis Vũ sẻ làm phó sứ tại St. Martin de Tours Parish tại Franklin, Wisconsin. Cha Francis Vũ sẽ tiếp tục hoạt động với TNTT, với các Huynh Trưởng Miền Trung và Toàn Quốc.

Lễ Tấn Phong Linh Mục đã được chủ tế do Đức Cha Jaime Soto tại St. Polycarp, cùng với Cha Chính Xứ Chu Vinh Quang, Chủ tịch Phong Trào TNTT/VN Toàn Quốc, và các Cha, các Thầy của Dòng Thánh Tâm, SCJ, riêng ra có trên 20, cùng đồng tế trong buổi lễ. Các Souers Dòng Mến Thánh Gía, LHC, các đoàn thể của cộng đồng và cộng đoàn ngoài St. Polycarp và St Boniface, Anaheim, cũng đến tham dự đông đảo và nhất là lễ mở tay buổi chiều tại St Boniface. Tiệc tiếp tân tại nhà hàng Seafood Palace 2 tiếp sau thánh lễ được tổ chức vào buổi trưa dành trên 200 khách đến tham dự. Cha Linh Muc Thông trong vai trò MC cũng rất linh hoạt điều động buổi tiệc tiếp tân như một bữa tiệc mừng…cô dâu về nhà Chúa cho đến khi cắt bánh, cha Vũ hợp tay với ông bà cố cắt bánh đầu tiên cho cuộc đời phục vụ.

Thánh lễ Mở Tay buổỉ chiều tại St Boniface, Anaheim, thực sự là lúc “về làng” vinh quy bái tổ cho Cha Francis Vũ. Đoàn TNTT/ĐMMT lúc này đã tập trung thật đông đảo trong nhà thờ mặc dù chưa tới mùa sinh hoạt trong năm của TNTT, hàng chào Thiếu Nhi đã đứng vào vị trí dọc theo hàng ghế từ cuối nhà thờ chạy dọc lên cung thánh để chuẩn bị cho phần nhập lễ. Ông Chủ tịch Phùng văn Thích bắt đấu bằng tiểu sử của Cha Francis Vũ trên cung thánh, cửa chính vào nhà thờ đóng lại. Mọi người trong nhà thờ ngóng chờ trong không khí long trọng.

“Chuẩn bị, chào. Chào!”

Tiếng hô của Huynh Trưởng, trong tư thế đứng nghiêm như 21 phát súng chào mừng một vị nguyên thủ quốc gia, nay dành cho Cha Huynh Trưởng Tối Cao Francis Vũ cùng Cha Quản nhiệm Micheal Tùng và các Cha khách Dòng Thánh Tâm, SCJ, tiến lên cung thánh.

Trong buổi lễ Cha Micheal Tùng chia sẻ sự dấn thân của mỗi cá nhân trong cộng đoàn dân Chúa bằng cách gia nhập các hội đoàn, như Thiếu Nhi, là môi trường rất tốt để Ơn Gọi được có cơ hội phát triển. Sau lễ, hội trường đã chuẩn bị tiệc tiếp tân cho 700 phần ăn, gồm có cộng đoàn dân Chúa và quan khách. Các em Thiếu Nhi đã trình diễn những tiết mục văn nghệ thật dễ thương, và trong đó có câu chuyện thật dí dỏm đi tu của Cha Francis Vũ từ lúc bắt đầu từ TNTT, không ai mà là lăn ra cưòi khi thủ vai “cha Vũ” do HT Joe ban phép lành cho mọi người trong đó có cha Vũ. Sau văn nghệ, từng đoàn người xếp hàng tới Cha Vũ để được đặt tay ban phước lành. Mặc dù ngày hôm nay ngày thật dài và mệt mỏi cho Cha Vũ, nhưng thấy Cha tinh thần thoải mái, và Cha lại gặp tất cả kỷ niệm thời xa xưa qua những gương mặt quen thuộc qua 10 năm xa nhà.

Cộng đoàn St Boniface Anaheim đã đợi cho ngày hôm nay, thật đã lâu, Cha Francis Vũ như cơn mưa Chúa đã đổ xuống trong Đức Tin qua ơn Thiên Triệu thật thiêng liêng đã đến với cha, và tiếp tục cho cộng đoàn dân Chúa. CĐ Anaheim nay có 3 Linh Mục xuất thân từ TNTT, Cha Micheal Tùng hỏi các bạn trẻ trong hội trường “Ai sẽ là người kế tiếp đi theo Chúa?”

The scripture chosen by Fr Francis-Vu Tran for the sacred day revealed to the new ordained Fr Francis-Vu the Words of God in his life of a servant. On this day Fr Vu became a priest in the order of Melchizedek, “You are a priest forever”. In many retreats and training camps of Eucharistic Youth Society (EYS), “Light” and “Salt” were among the most frequently studied topics, and thus intrigued the spiritual depth to many. His holy order became fully grown on this day, when Bishop Jaime Soto summoned Fr Francis Vu, who responded loudly with a distinct voice, “Here I am, Francis Vu Tran” and later prostrated before altar in the ordination of the presbyterate proceedings.

Fr Francis Vu joined the EYS at St Boniface in 1995, after having escaped from the communist Viet Nam with his mother to America at the age of 10 years old. He came from a family of 3 children, his parents were Joseph Tran Van Lai and Maria Nguyễn Thi Lượt, Fr Francis Vu was the youngest son of the two older sisters. Fr Vu started his EYS in the Preteen troop, and became leader Level I of the regional southwest EYS, LDNS V; Fr Vu later became leader of Preteen EYS, and was in charge of the regional Southwest EYS Retreat Legion, he also taught Vietnamese classes in the parish. In 1995, Fr Vu sought the holy order under the council of Fr Joseph Nguyen van Son of St Boniface, and went to Texas to join the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In August of 2004 Fr Vu committed his life to the sacred vow to the order. The following year Fr Vu graduated with the Master of Divinity at Chicago Theological Union in May.

During the last 10 years away from home, Fr Vu has been actively involved in the EYS Legion “Ocean Star”, Chicago, and EYS of Midwest in the role of the spiritual advisor. He
is also Vice Principle of Preteen EYS Council of USA. Whenever Fr Vu visited home in southern California, he spent time giving council to EYS retreat camps.

After the ordination, Fr Francis Vu will be the associate Pastor of St Martin de Tours of Franklin, Wisconsin. Fr Vu will continue to be involved with regional EYS, and engage with an active role working with group leaders in the EYS Midwest and national regions.

The Ordination on September 10 at St Polycarp, Westminster, was presided over by the Most Rev. Jaime Soto, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Orange County with the Cocelebrants Very Rev. Richard McDonald, SCJ, Rev. Yvonne Sheely, SCJ, and Rev. Quang Vinh Chu, Pastor of St Polycarp and President of the Vietnamese EYS, USA, and over 20 SCJ confreres coming from Chicago area. The religious orders, such as the Sisters of Loving Holy Cross, the leaders and adult counselors of various charters of EYS southern California Legions, the parishioners of St Polycarp, and of the home church St Boniface, Anaheim, friends and families were present in large numbers in the presbyterate ceremony. The reception for over 200 guests was held thereafter at Seafood Palace 2 restaurant in the early afternoon. Fr Thong, SCJ, was the MC with his way of entertaining the luncheon guests with holy humors, and rocked the place. Fr Francis-Vu cut the cake with his parents in the finale.

The reception ended in the early afternoon, and the evening Liturgy began at St Boniface…

The Thanksgiving mass for the welcoming event had been planned months ahead at the parish where Fr Vu grew up. The EYS St Boniface troopers in uniform gathered in a large number inside the church, even though they were in the mid of summer recess. The honored welcoming guards of all ranks were positioned along the isles in the marching order. The church council President Phùng văn Thích opened the marching order with the biography of Fr Francis Vu on the podium. The main church doors were closed from the inside for the last minutes of proceeding order. Everyone inside the church was waiting in a solemn, but joyful suspense.

“Troops, ready. Salute!”

The command coming from the troop leader, resembled a 21 gun salutation for dignitaries, honored the marching order of the Honorable Troop Leader Rev Francis-Vu Anh Tran, SCJ, the presiding Rev Micheal Tung, and the priests of SCJ order proceeding toward the altar.

In the welcoming greetings Fr Micheal Tung shared the essence of fellowship to each parishioner by encouraging the church members to join various fellowships, such as EYS, which had cultivated the best blessing of the holy order. After the thanksgiving mass, the church auditorium prepared 700 meals for the parishioners and guests. The EYS troopers proudly presented their skits in the full, youthful spirit with the dances, plays, and homecoming humors—one of which was a play narrating the life story Fr Vu, who started out from the EYS. The character of Fr Vu was played by the troop leader Joe who ended the finale with the blessing to his people which knocked people off their seat in laughter. After the entertainment, throngs of people continued to approach Fr Vu for the blessings. While the day was long and tiring for Fr Vu, the new ordained priest remained great in spirit as he talked to the great multitudes; as he greeted many and recalled familiar faces from the past 10 years away from home.

The parish had been waiting for a day much like the day Fr Francis-Vu Anh Tran, SCJ, returned home in the royal priesthood, the day when our Heavenly Father would bless the Holy Order upon this church. St Boniface now has been blessed with 3 priests coming from the EYS. Fr Micheal Tung, also a former member of the EYS, challenged the audience in the auditorium by asking, “Who will be the next one?” The crowd roared jubilantly into the night.
